Similarities between a Parish Council and
Pastoral Council:
► Both are consultative bodies
► Neither required by canon law as is a
Finance Council
► Either is required in each parish by Diocesan
policy and the Diocesan Bishop

Saint Elizabeth of Hungary Parish
► Formed Fall, 2006 with 13 members
► July/2008 Retreat – a growing sense
of general
parish input for renewal, identity, and long-range
planning for the parish was experienced
► The question was “How to embark on the renewal
process and gather information for parish
renewal?” The answer came:
 The need for Parish mission-spiritual boost
 Needs Assessments-several instruments

 1,000 cards received. 5,000 entries made to parish system because most indicated
more than one talent they would like to share for the good of parish
 Provided an excellent reference of the make-up of the parish
 Reports were designed and are run for parish events and activities and volunteers
called based on what was indicated resulting in more parishioner involvement
