Next Step
• What are the academic requirements?
– What flexibility do you have in where
these courses are placed?
– Is there a testing ramification to course
placement?
• What needs to be added for the UC a-g
requirements?

Support Services
• Bridge programs – Summer of 8th grade
• Credit recovery programs, online
courses
• Summer School
• Afterschool Tutoring/Mentoring
• Extended Day/Summer School
• Student Advisory Periods
Master Schedule Development
• Determine type of schedule 4x4, 4x8,
6x2, 7x2, modified block, etc,
• Enrollment projections
• Student Support needs
• Class loading
• Number of teachers needed
• Student cohorts
Master Schedule Timeline
September
October
November
December
February
March/April
May
June/July
• Planning
• Design Program of Study
• Determine specific Course offerings
• Develop catalog of courses
• Student articulation rising 9th graders
• Scheduling current students
• Finalizing master schedule
• Summer planning
Common Issues
• Can’t fit it all in to current schedule
• Can’t afford to have Technical Core in grades 9-12
– ROP doesn’t support the earlier grades
– School doesn’t have the resources
– CTE doesn’t meet grad requirements or UC a-g
– Can’t we just embed theme into academic core
• CPA grant is restrictive
• Classes are not pure
• 9th grade academy model prohibits four year
Program of Study
Next Steps
• Additional support needed
• Identification of PD/TA providers
