A community with a vision”

Neighborhood Profile

Detroit Shoreway – “A neighborhood with a view,

A community with a vision”

Neighborhood Profile

• 15,000 people call Detroit Shoreway home • Detroit Shoreway is in the center of the Near West Side neighborhoods – a very densely populated community with 77,000 people • If it were incorporated as a city, the Near West Side would be Ohio’s eighth largest city • Detroit Shoreway is one of the few lakefront communities in Northeast Ohio where you can walk to the beach • The 200-acre Edgewater State Park, Ohio’s most popular State Park, borders the northern end of the neighborhood

Detroit Shoreway – “A neighborhood with a view,

A community with a vision”

Neighborhood Profile

• As recently as the 1970 census, the Detroit Shoreway neighborhood had the highest number of people who walked to work • The closure of the two largest employers, Westinghouse and Eveready Battery, sent the neighborhood into a tailspin • By 1990, the neighborhood had a 40% poverty rate and median home sales price of $16,000 • We’ve been dedicated to rebuilding the neighborhood’s housing market for the last two decades to attract private sector investment through market rate housing development and acquisition and redevelopment of multi-family buildings along Detroit Avenue

Detroit Shoreway – “A neighborhood with a view,

A community with a vision”
