ERAS (for most), CAS (for a few) = the service that collates
and submits all the documents you enter to the programs
you choose
NRMP (for most), SF match, Urology Match, Military Match =
computer service that actually matches applicant with
program according to the rank lists submitted

How does the Match work?
THE MATCH AGREEMENT IS A
LEGALLY BINDING CONTRACT
If you enter the NRMP or SF match, you
are obligated to accept your placement.
As with any contract, there are
significant legal consequences for
breaking the contract.

Ideal letter writers:

Full time faculty (not community faculty, not fellows, not residents)
Know you well
Higher the academic rank, the better
