The Plan • new and improved cycle routes to modern standards • new facilities – ‘Hub’ Station redevelopment scheme – Pilot scheme to encourage bike to tram interchange – Expansion of Big Track - including Victoria Embankment Castle Marina) • • • • Major development and transport projects Enhanced training and safety provision Increased more effective signage, maps and information Partnership Cycle Forum 2010 - Issues Key areas to improve and deliver on included: – Improved infrastructure, quality corridors and better connectivity – Training and driver awareness for all road users: more enforcement – Increased levels of travel planning and support for organisations to facilitate the increases in cycling BY • Changing behaviour, more cyclists on the road, • Training (discover the potential of cycling) • Infrastructure • Information and Awareness • Integration with other modes of transport Cycle Forum 2010 What is not delivered yet • Leisure bridge across Trent and improvements to all river crossings • Mutual respect for road users and enforcement of ASL’s • Business to play a big part providing facilities and benefits • Develop local champions network, how to access training, routes, information and maintenance • Work with partners to assess the viability of a multipurpose cycle hub facility in the City Centre Thoughts for the Future • Partnership – – – – • • Rail industry NET Employers Community Police Extra funding leveraged in e.g. EMDA, Ucycle increases in trip levels over the last 4 years – 1% p.a. increase in cycling trips – This year automatic counters showing as much as 5-10% increase on 2010 • • road safety improvements - rolling 5 year averages show 37% less cycling accident casualties than 15 years ago opportunities arising from – – – – – – linked journeys Peak oil, economy and climate change LTP3 LSTF Growth Point Projects e.g. UCycle
