Make a constitutional amendment
Takes two thirds of Congress
Must be ratified by three fourths of the state legislatures
Get individual states to permit women to vote
In 1917 U.S. goes into WWI
Women take jobs left by men
Volunteer for ambulance and nursing jobs
All this brings women’s accomplishments into the public eye
Victory
1918 Congress formally proposed the suffrage
amendment
August 6, 1918 the 19th amendment giving
women the right to vote was declared ratified
