Many benefits
FORDA : provide areas for research, many
lessons which could be learned

Allwright Fellowship



Appreciation to ACIAR for the previlege given
to Indonesian Master & Doctorate candidates
(example : John Allwright Fellowship)
Only very few forestry activities included in
the coming ACIAR-Indonesia cooperation
programme
Hoping : there is still a room to revisit the
proposed ACIAR – Indonesia programme to
enable the inclusion of more forestry activities
Critical Issue
The ACIAR contribution to Indonesian
forestry : only 19.44% of total grant
between 2002 – 2006 from various
mechanism of ACIAR (bilateral actual,
bilateral forecast, bilateral budget,
multilateral budget)



Forest area in Indonesia has been depleted at
alarming rate (degradation)
Cause : lack of understanding of the
importance of forest existence (local
community which is living in and surounding
forest area)
Important : make a living for survival without
distrubing forest


President of RI in December 2006 launched :
Small-scale Plantation Development
National Strategy : a policy and programme
designed to involve local communities in
commercial forestry across 9 million hectares
by 2014 to replant the forest




To support created a strategic policy of developing
community plantation forest
To involve local community in sustainable forest
management in private forests
Local community becomes a main actor of managing
forest as they live close to forest areas
FORDA has established teams for forest governance
in the context of decentralization, community
plantation forest institution and the assessment of
incentive formulation of emission reduction



Location ACIAR Project on forest partnership :
= Bulukumba, South Sulawesi
=West Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara
To answer the problems on how the local
community create income and at the same time
providing them how to manage forests
sustainability
Hope : the similar activities could be
implemented in other areas in Indonesia
Conclusion


Forestry sector contributes : social welfare,
poverty alleviation, minimizing natural
disaster, reducing climate change
The Ministry of Forestry do some actions to
reducing poverty
