INFORMATION NIGHT
FOR
SENIORS
PRESENTATION GOALS:
1. Review the role Naviance
plays in the application
process.
2. Identify steps to getting the
application process started
for 2-yr and 4-yr colleges.
3. Review topics related to
scholarships, financial aid
and NCAA.
4. Provide reminder of
important dates.

college advising
programs offered
during SMART lunch!
We hope by now all
seniors are registered and
use it regularly.

WHAT CAN STUDENTS AND
PARENTS DO USING NAVIANCE?
 Access Guidance Department updates and news
bulletins.
 View list of colleges visiting KRHS and sign up to
attend.
 Complete a college search.
 Develop a prospective college list.
 Track deadlines.
 Request and process teacher recommendations.
 Create a résumé.
 Access scholarship search engines; over a
hundred national scholarships are available.
 Link to selected third party resources (i.e.
College Board, Financial Aid, NCAA, Careers,
College searches, etc.).
WHAT DO YOU NEED TO DO TO GET
THE FOUR -YEAR APPLICATION
PROCESS STARTED?
1. Submit college application (Common
App vs. online app) electronically.
2. Update Naviance by moving schools
to “Colleges I’m Applying To”.
3. Submit a completed “College
Application Checklist” for EACH
school to your counselor after you
have submitted it electronically to
the college.
THEN YOU WILL NEED TO GET
A FEW THINGS IN ORDER:
Ensure signed
“Transcript Release
Form” is on file.
Secure letters of
recommendation
using “Student
Profile Form” and
communicate with
teachers when they
are to be sent.
Contact College
Board/ACT to
forward official
SAT/ACT Scores
directly to
Admissions.
Make a calendar
with dates and
deadlines.
STEPS TO SUBMITTING COLLEGE APPLICATIONS
 Complete admission application
o Online application
o Common Application
o Paper application
 Update Naviance
o Add to “Colleges I’m Applying to” (after you have applied not
before).
 Official High School Transcripts
o Must be requested for each school to which you apply using College
Application Checklist (submit after you have applied not before).
 SAT or ACT Scores
o Must be requested directly from College Board (not included on
transcript).
 Letters of Recommendation
o Complete Student Profile to request letters from teachers or
guidance counselor.
o “Invite” teachers to upload/send recommendations in Naviance.
 Optional:
o Create a personal resume.
Once all of the above mentioned items are complete, an application is considered
ready to be processed. Remember to allow 10 days for processing of applications.

school and student.
Upon notification of
acceptance, student
is required to
withdraw pending

decision. This
action is nonbinding for both
parties.
PROCESSING THE TWO-YEAR
COLLEGE APPLICATION
• SAT/ACT not required for
admission but may exempt
student from placement testing
• Selective programs/two- tier
application
• No recommendations required
• RCGC—On-site in December
RCGC ON-SITE REGISTRATION
• Through a partnership with RCGC,
Kingsway offers this service to our
students who plan to enroll at
RCGC the following fall.
• Informational meeting with for
seniors held during school
day. Interested students should
sign up in Naviance to attend.
NJSTARS
This full tuition scholarship to community colleges is
available to students who place in the top 15% of the
graduating class and meet additional academic
requirements determined by the state of New Jersey.

financial aid office.

businesses and organizations.

seniors throughout the course of the
school year. Also available on our
website and Naviance.
• Scholarship Search Engines available
on Guidance website and Naviance.
