Background
The Iditarod is the world’s largest dogsled race.
It is held the first part of March every year.
The trail, which is over one thousand miles long,
begins in Anchorage, Alaska, and ends in Nome.
Past races have taken from 11-32 days to finish.
In the past this sport has drawn little attention in
the “lower 48”, but with the invention of global
technology, you and your students will literally
feel like you are on the trail!
Rationale
All facets of the curriculum are incorporated into
this fascinating unit. No matter the age, your
students will enjoy learning about our country’s
“Last Great Frontier”.
This unit coordinates with MAP skills and ShowMe Standards
We have tried to list various age level lessons and
activities to meet your needs
