Summary & Future Plan
Why crewing ?
 Crewing is probably the most common way for people to
discover sailing, through a friend or family member
 Crewing is probably the most cost effective way to
discover sailing. Most club members do not own a boat –
they crew for someone else
 Crewing is very flexible – you can crew at various levels
on the sailing pathway, in various roles, and supplement
your sailing with courses to develop sailing skills
 Crewing can be very time effective – especially after
work/ twilight crewing
Crewing ….by any name ?
 Keelboat or Dinghy
 Racing (various levels) or social racing / cruising
 Week or weekend
 Twilight crewing / sailing – everything gemba said new
participants want
 Fun & friendly participation rather than pure “racing”
 No large commitment – either membership or time
 Weekdays or weekends
 Adventurous but safe
