About McCain
John McCain (Republican, born August 29, 1936)
has served as senator for Arizona since 1986. Prior
to that he served two terms as congressman for
Arizona's 1st district. He flew combat missions in
Vietnam and was taken prisoner when his plane was shot down
in October 1967. Although his captors offered to release him
after six months due to his father's high position in the U.S.
military, McCain refused unless every man captured before him
was also freed. He served five and a half years in a POW camp
before his release in March 1973. He received the Silver Star,
Legion of Merit, Distinguished Flying Cross, Bronze Star, and
Purple Heart.
Mc Cain has over 20 years of experience and is a war veteran.
Many believe this experience would help him in the conflicts
America is current in. Many believe he would probably keep
things close to the same as Bush.

About Obama
Barack Obama (Democrat, born August 4,
1961) has served as senator for Illinois since 2004. He rose
to national prominence after giving a rousing keynote speech at
the 2004 Democratic National Convention on the theme of
national unity. He holds a law degree from Harvard and was the
first black president of the Harvard Law Review. He has also
worked as a community organizer in Chicago's public housing
projects and as a lecturer at the University of Chicago.
Obama is young and has many fresh ideas on politics. He
has inspired many people to come out and vote. Many
believe he would give the world a new view of America and
be less likely to start new overseas conflicts

Who do you Like??
Sometimes we may like some one with our heart,
but with an election this important we must also
look at the issues!!!
Before we vote I want you to take a little quiz.

1. Should the U.S. begin withdrawing troops in Iraq within the
next year, leaving it to the Iraqis to stabilize their own country?

2. Should the U.S. government enact mandatory rules to
dramatically reduce global warming gases over the next few
decades?

3. Should the next U.S. president engage in direct diplomatic
talks with Iran over its nuclear program rather than threatening
harsh sanctions and military action?

4. Is it important for a President to have previous military
experience in order to be an effective Commander-in-Chief ?

5. Should government guarantee every American the
right to health care, as it does a basic education?

6. Should the U.S start more offshore oil drilling
while working on alternate fuel programs?

7. Should the U.S. provide a path for citizenship for
the millions of illegal immigrants in this country?

8. Should corporations and wealthy Americans be
required to pay more in taxes in order to pay for
health care for all Americans and expanded public
education?
Time to make a decision



Who do you like?
Who stands for the same issues as you?
Who will you vote for?
Would anyone like to give some reasons to vote
for the candidate they like?
I will pass out paper, please write the name of the
person you think should be the next president
of the US!!!
Voting Process In America

1st People vote in their state for who they want to be president.

2nd From those votes each state will decide who it will support.
Representatives are then chosen to vote at the Electoral College.

3rd The higher the population of a state the more representatives they receive.
All of the representatives will vote for the same person regardless of how
close the vote was in the state.


So if 40% of Texans vote for Obama and 57% vote for McCain all 34
representatives from Texas will vote for McCain.
4th The representatives will vote at the Electoral College on November 14th
and the President will be officially elected!!!
After the voting ends on Tuesday night we will know how each
state will vote at the electoral college and therefore we will know
who the president will be.
