CHRISTMAS Christmas is the Christian holiday celebrating the birth of Jesus. The story has survived through the gospels of Luke and Matthew, telling the angel Gabriel, the adoration of the shepherds, the visit of the Magi. The Christian meaning of the festival lies in the celebration of God's presence with the birth of Jesus. The liturgical season of Christmas is counted from the first vespers of December 24, ending with the Sunday of the Baptism of Jesus. Crib, derived from medieval representations that the tradition dates back to St. Francis of Assisi, is a reconstruction of the figurative birth of Jesus. Christmas tree is a tree decorated with small colored objects, lights, sweets, small gifts. The Christmas tree gradually took on a a new meaning: it came to symbolize the figure of Jesus, the Savior who has overcome the darkness of sin. Father Christmas present in many cultures, is an old man with a white beard that distributes gifts to children, usually in the evening of Christmas Eve. It derives from the historical figure of Saint Nicholas of Bari, but in its modern form it has spread since the nineteenth century United States. "Dream stockings" full of gifts based on the celebrity gift wish lists were offered for auction. • Schiffer also wants a book about yoga, a box of After Eight chocolates, a bottle of red wine and Agent Provocateur underwear, reports the Daily Mail. • Grant would also like a Richard James shirt, Gucci sunglasses, three pairs of black Pantherella socks, and Adidas trainers • • • CHRISTMAS QUOTES I have always thought of Christmas time, when it has come round, as a good time; a kind, forgiving, charitable time; the only time I know of, in the long calendar of the year, when men and women seem by one consent to open their shut-up hearts freely, and to think of people below them as if they really were fellow passengers to the grave, and not another race of creatures bound on other journeys. Happy, happy Christmas, that can win us back to the delusions of our childish days; that can recall to the old man the pleasures of his youth; that can transport the sailor and the traveller, thousands of miles away, back to his own fire-side and his quiet home! It’s my favorite holiday of the year. Christmas is definitely around the corner. Christmas songs are already being played over the radio; Christmas decorations are already seen on TV and the stores; plans are already being made for Christmas parties / activities and the itinerary for one’s Christmas vacation is already being prepared. • Since Christmas is just around the corner, this is my personal wish-list for this wonderful season. Some of these are material things, others are not. Some are realistic, others (at least from my point of view) may not be quite as realistic.
