Vietnamese Outreach
• Community area or dedicated street with a distinctly Vietnamese
character that includes Vietnamese design and cultural elements,
lotus towers, pictures, fish scale tiles, doors, foliage, bamboo, etc)
Façade, courtyard help in shopping center; streetscape.
• High-quality café’s and restaurants that would appeal to the broader
community as well---outdoor marketplaces and vendors.
• Wide open entrances---in Vietnam doors were open from early in the
AM to late at night, alleys and arcades, place where older people
can meet and that has after school activities for kids
• Community networking (the lunch meeting provided a very active
exchange of business cards!
• More information and communication on City plans – City should
inform community through church, Buddhist Temple, E-mail, etc.
Vietnamese Community Outreach
• A place for seniors, teens and children to
meet
• More neighborhood parks
• Need connections and walkability
• A cultural center near public transportation
for a sense of identity
• Community networking

Latino Community
• Change shouldn’t displace existing residents and
families
• Need for affordable housing; young families, home
ownership and stabilization of existing residents

redevelopment
• Affordable day care

Cultural Groups
• More flow of information to residents regarding existing
resources and services.
• Improve school facilities - convert to hubs of community
activity---open more hours---locate services and
activities in school---continue teacher housing assist.
• Better pedestrian access to schools---connect with trails
• Large public space for community festivals, celebrations,
meetings, classes, etc.
• Add movie and theater facilities including multi-lingual
facilities
• Improve park facilities---lighted athletic fields, restrooms--programs for people of all ages, cultures

• Most businesses are self-financed using family funding
and staffing.
• Signage overwhelms Tully

Facilities
• Connect bike and pedestrian pathways into raging
waters and Lake Cunningham. Open access to LC Park
• Diversity representation and historical commemoration
(e.g. memorial grove to ethnic figures).
• Rec Facilities---e.g..., Swimming pool, children's oriented
interactive art from all ethnic groups, performing arts
center, skate park, lighted athletic fields, community
center for meetings, parties, bowling alleys and ice rink.
• Public art that reflects walnut orchards and what was in
the area historically, arbors and native vegetation.
Arcadia site
• Pedestrian and auto access across and through Arcadia
site for existing and proposed uses
• Include park/green space/athletic fields with landscaping
that references past—orchards, gardens
• Provide adequate parking
• Housing mix—including affordable housing, senior
housing and adequate infrastructure for second units
• Include small hotel/inn
• Location of LRT
• Provide for views to eastern hills

• “Eastridge is…an important institution in the community and should

• More direct connection to transit (tunnel, protected walkway, lighting)
and for pedestrians – transit station as a place
• New strategy: add entertainment, sit down restaurants, mix of
independent and franchise retail, interior improvements
• Sears property most developable- outside airport path
• Want a main street appearance, flowers, fountain, less pavement,
cultural diversity reflected in architecture
• Confusing – driving approach, levels, lack of signage
• Want places for artists to show work, musicians to play, concerts,
performance area, keep ice rink that is used for teams and leagues.
Land Use Policies and Airport
• Need density to support transit and provide
affordable housing---but fear of density is issue
• Residential stabilization important so density OK
• Place design in context of regional plan
• FAA and county land use restrictions on
development in and around airport.
• Flood plain issues
• Exceptions can be made at airport, but must
pass safety guidelines
• Improvements to airport site needed
Infrastructure and Street Design
• Improved Pedestrian crossing Capitol
Expressway.
• Redesign streets to promote safety.
• Greater housing density; alleys, garages
on rear.
