Pressure Benefits Study Pressure Benefits Study •Text Learning •After-reading exercises Pressure Benefits Study 1 A good many students dislike exams because they think of them as more pressure. On most occasions, pressure makes people depressed and annoyed. However, as long as we can handle it, pressure can also work miracles and increase motivation. 2 Concerning exams, it is not how much knowledge we have learned, but how well we apply it that really counts. 3 I'd like to give my definition of "PRESSURE" related to exams that works well for me. I redefine the word PRESSURE as follows: T Pressure Benefits Study 4 P—persistence. Since learning is an ongoing process, it needs persistence, the force that turns pressure into motivation. 5 R—relaxing. All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. When preparing for tests, we are not supposed to lose ourselves into them. Instead, we need to find something funny and interesting to add some flavor to our study, to smell the flowers and refresh our minds. T Pressure Benefits Study 6 E—energetic. To keep us energetic, it is necessary for us to sleep well and use time wisely. But too often, many of us seem to prefer burning the midnight oil as tests approach. This may be effective once or twice, however, in the long run, it will produce nothing but a vicious circle. 7 S—self-confidence. When we are in good spirits, it is natural we will build up confidence. Just bear in mind that tests do not measure everything. Even though we lose sometimes, we need to learn how to relieve fear of failure. Whenever we think something negative, acknowledge it and wipe it out from our mind, replacing it with something positive. T Pressure Benefits Study 8 S—systematic. To get down to the detailed preparation of work, it is essential to make it clear by reviewing our previous learning. Only when we have organized our knowledge, can we then have a more systematic approach. 9 U—understanding. When we have checked what we have learned, we will understand our strengths and weaknesses. Therefore, we will have a definite goal on how to overcome our weaknesses while developing our strengths. T Pressure Benefits Study 10 R—recharging. Knowledge and ideas from textbooks are far from enough, and on many occasions we may feel we still need more than what we know. 11 E—enhancing. From psychological factors to operational factors, so long as we deal with the above described factors properly, we are sure to enhance our learning. 12 This new definition may not be the key to everything, but it does what it can.
