Develop Winning Drills
Winning Drills

Individual / Group Drills
• Name

– “To practice having good footwork when going from our first read to our
second read to our third read.”

– List anything and everything needed
– Be as descriptive as possible
– “3 Footballs and 30 yards of the field from hash to sideline”
Individual / Group Drills
• Description / Mechanics
– Include as much information as possible including positioning of coach and
other players involved
– “Start with one QB in a gun (or under center) position. Usually position QB on
or near a hash. Other QB’s (or WR’s) should be lined up in positions where
most throws take place. Usual spots include flare, comeback, curl, and dig.
The coach and other QB’s should stand at least 10 yards from the LOS behind
the QB. The coach should then designate each QB (or WR) by a number
(usually 1 through 4). At the snap, QB will take a 5 step drop with a hitch. As
he is hitting his 5th step, coach will call out one of the numbers he has given the
routes. The QB (or WR) with that number should raise his hands. The QB
needs to get his feet set to make the throw at the target the number signifies and
then make the throw as quickly as possible. The coach can force the QB to
move from one receiver to the next by saying “No” followed by a second
number. (i.e. “3 no 1”) This forces the QB to move his feet and reset himself
like in a game.”
