Energy, Natural Resources and the Environment (ENE- program) • We have admitted students from all parts of the world and roughly 60% from Europe (the national admitted students can freely choose) • This Master's program offers a global and interdisciplinary approach. • After their time in Bergen they have gone on to international careers. Acquaintances developed at NHH form the bases for an international network of friends and colleagues that stays with them for life. 7/21/2015 Stein Ivar Steinshamn Focus • Interdisciplinary approach to analysis of the energy and natural resource value chains and shipping • Business/government interactions in commercial energy and natural resource development • Strategic responses to more competitive energy and natural resource markets • Environmental impact business activities and policy response: Environmental policy • Optimal management of renewable and non-renewable resources • Insight in how companies operate in the real world Learning outcome • The program provides a foundation for work in most sectors, including finance, consultancy, accounting, oil/gas, IT/telecom, industry, media, public administration and non-profit organizations. Candidates will also be well prepared to progress to doctoral studies, whether Norwegian or foreign. • By the end of their studies, candidates will have gained in-depth and current knowledge of relevant theories and empirical data, being able to independently refresh their competence and employ new developments throughout their careers. Program structure • The programme consists of 12 courses and a thesis adding up to a total of 120 study points (equivalent to ECTS credits) - 90 points for the 12 courses and 30 points for the thesis. Normally one would follow courses in three semesters and dedicate the final semester to the thesis. • The general course plan for a major in the ENE specialisation comprises: • Six core courses from the ENE specialization • Six elective courses from amongst all the MSc specialisations at NHH Program structure • It is recommended that four of the elective courses be taken from one and the same sub-specialisation in order to enable a minor profile that supports the ENE specialisation. • The ENE specialization offers a range of core courses, of which six courses are considered methodological. Students must take at least two methodological course. Program structure Similar to the other profiles with two important modifications: 1. The courses are selected (relatively freely) from any specialization offered by NHH 2. In order to widen the range of relevant topics a series of seminars are offered. A seminar counts as 1/3 of a regular course. A combination of three seminars counts as a core or elective course. One seminar can be replaced by an internship of a duration of one month at a company or an organization whose main activities are in ENE sectors Topics given in seminars are subject to change in order to focus on current topics of interest and the availability of guest lecturers and available expertise from the industrial sectors and NGOs Courses The ordinary courses cover a wide range of topics: It is mandatory to have at least two of the following methodological courses: • • • • • • Methodological courses: ECO401 - Optimisation and microeconomics ECN402 - Econometrics ECO403 - Time Series Analysis ENE420 - Economic decision models ENE429 - Topics in Applied Management of the Environment and Natural Resources • FIE439 - Empirical Analyses of Finance and Resource Markets Four alternative sub-specializations 1. 2. 3. 4.
