What is NBPTS?
NBPTS - is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization
created in 1987 in response to “A Nation At
Risk” and “A Nation Prepared”
 Its mission is to:
• Maintain and update professional standards for
accomplished teaching
• Integrate National Board Certified Teachers
(NBCTs) into education reform efforts
• Advance school improvement

Indicated that students of The National Board Certified
Teachers (NBCTs)
 Outperform students of non-NBCTs on achievement
tests—and the positive effect is even greater among
minority students
 Make learning gains equivalent to an extra month in
school
