In the Beginning …

The SelTrac system concepts and techniques of communication-based
Automatic Train Protection are from the LZB system used on mainline
railways in Europe.

These concepts were first adapted and proven in service for Urban Rail on
the Berlin Line 4 in 1972.

The first unmanned, CBTC train went into service in Vancouver, Canada
in 1986.
