CIMug Relationship with UCAIug
• UCA International Users Group is a non-profit organization
dedicated to promoting standards usage and development
– UCAIug: www.ucaiug.org
• Member groups have individual sites:
MANY
SITES – CIMug: www.cimug.org
ONE
– IEC TC57: www.iectc57.org
LOGIN
– IEC 61850: www.iec61850ug.org
– Open Smart Grid: www.opensmartgrid.org
(These are the simplest URLs – bookmark and share them.)
• A “federation” of sites – secure, scalable, and reliable
Business Capabilities
• Every CIM Users Group Member or Guest Can:
– Be known through a User Profile.
– Track What’s New on CIMug or other sites (UCA, Open Smart Grid, IEC
TC 57, IEC 61850)
– Submit help desk requests and get answers.
– Search by keyword across any of these sites
– Contribute content (documents, discussions, blogs, wikis, etc.) and
receive alerts on any activity
– Create subsites for projects, working groups, or member-specific
activity
• All operations are automatically permission-limited

Photo Library
• Sites are built with webparts, from pre-built templates
Two Types of Role Assignments
• User Group Roles –
Configured by UCAIug
Admin
– Guest
– Individual Member
– Corporate Member company or corporation
– Corporate Rep - speaks,
votes, and manages
corporate payment
• Sharepoint Site Roles –
Configured by each Site
Owner
– Guest – Views Content
– Member – Contributes
Content
– Owner – Sets up site and
assigns permissions
Important Note for Corporate Employees
• If you think your company may have a corporate membership.
– First check the list of Member Companies
– Then create your account, and use your corporate email
address
• Your corporate email address qualifies you for discount
registration at meetings.
• If you set up your account with a personal email address, you may
not get the membership discount (we do not cross-check after
the fact)
Understanding Permissions
• We apply three permission levels
– Full Control: least restrictive – for Owners
– Contribute: can view, add, update, and delete previously
created items – for Members
– Read: most restrictive – can view and read pages including
the resource libraries – for Guests
• Permission levels are assigned to roles, then roles to individuals
• Permission settings can be applied at any level
– Site level
– Document Library or List level
– Individual file level
