Larry’s 3 Wheeler inspired by
Donald B. Myers
November 20, 2008
Thursday November 20, 2008
• 1973 bug I bought
from Grimms to get
my needed rear
suspendation
Thursday November 20, 2008
• I first had to remove
this junked engine to
get to the transaxle
Thursday November 20, 2008
• Slid car to the rear and
used the plasma cutter
to cut out the needed
parts
Thursday November 20, 2008
• I jacked the transaxle
up and added wheels
& tires so as to roll the
rear end into the
garage
Thursday November 20, 2008
• I had to jack one side
at a time to get the
tires on but it worked
ok
Thursday November 20, 2008
• I first had to remove
this junked engine to
get to the transaxle
Thursday November 20, 2008
• Engine removed from
car was locked up but
crank and rods were
ok as used in later
engine rebuild
Friday November 21, 2008
• This was the 1980
Suzuki Motorcycle I
got the Motorcycle
forks and gas tank
from
Friday November 21, 2008
• Front View
Friday November 21, 2008
• Was not a bad
machine but engine
locked up
Saturday November 22, 2008
• I took a Harley
Davidson Golf cart
that looked like this on
except it was white in
color and had a blown
engine and took parts
from it
Saturday November 22, 2008
• Here are the fiberglass
remains of the
cannibalized Harley
cart
Saturday November 22, 2008
• I cut off the Harley
front suspendation and
removed the front fork
assembly
Saturday November 22, 2008
• This is the front part
of the Harley frame
• I have a level on it as I
get prepared to tack
the Suzuki front fork
to it
Saturday November 22, 2008
• I cut the front end off
the Suzuki here as to
have the Identification
stamp on the front fork
and bearing assembly
Saturday November 22, 2008
• Here are the pieces of
high strength steel
tubing I purchased
from Briggs welding
over to Charlestown,
West Virginia
Saturday November 22, 2008
• This mark is where I
joined the Suzuki to
the Harley
This is where I cut the Harley using a level and
square to get a perfect verticle line and I did the
same on the Suzuki Frame
Monday November 24, 2008
• I got this hunk of steel
from Briggs when I
got the steel tubing
and as it was ½ inch
thick I had them
(Briggs) burn out the
notch as my plasma
cutter works best to
3/8 of an inch
Monday November 24, 2008
• Here the Transaxle is
waiting for the adapter
plate
• It will be trimmed back
another 2 inches and
squared up so as to fit
flat against the
transaxle suspendation
Monday November 24, 2008
• Adapter plate before
trimming the
suspendation assembly
Monday November 22, 2008
• Suspendation has been
trimmed and the plate
is now fitted and will
be securely welded in
place
Tuesday November 25, 2008
• I have a level on the
front brake disk and I
have it level after
adjusting the tack weld
Tuesday November 25, 2008
• Here is a better look at
how it is coming
together
Tuesday November 25, 2008
• Here I have the
level on the
Harley sub frame
getting it perfectly
level with the
Suzuki front end
Wednesday November 26, 2008
• I have it welded
and here is
shown how the
data plate is still
attached to the
front fork
assembly
Wednesday November 26, 2008
• Here is the other
side of the front
fork assembly
showing the Vin
number stamped
into the front
fork housing by
Suzuki
Wednesday November 26, 2008
• Left front of
bare frame
Wednesday November 26, 2008
• Right front
view of frame
showing the
frame
extensions and
how the bare
frame looks
Wednesday November 26, 2008
• Here is the old
busted engine
from the shed
out back added
to get the right
location as to
level and I have
welded the front
frame to the rear
suspendation
Wednesday November 26, 2008
• Here is a
right rear
view as it
looks with
the engine
weight
added
Wednesday November 26, 2008
• Here is the
rear view
after
countless
hours of
leveling and
precision
welding with
the 230 amp
Lincoln stick
welder
Wednesday November 26, 2008
• Here is the
engine I had in
the back shed
for 20+ years
waiting for me
to make the 3
wheeler after I
collected all
the parts
• Found engine
with hole in
block and part
of a connecting
rod sticking out
Wednesday November 26, 2008
• There is a
2 inch hole
here in the
engine
crankcase
I had this engine stored for so long I forgot it’s 50
horses were busted by a bad rod sticking through a
hole at the rear of the block
Thursday November 27, 2008
Thanksgiving day
• I got the
Dodge Omni
bucket seats
from the attic
and laid a
creeper across
the frame to
see what my
project would
look like
Thursday November 27, 2008
Thanksgiving day
• In this
view I
used a
creeper
and some
cement
blocks to
see what
my Idea
might
look like
Thursday November 27, 2008
Thanksgiving day
• As you
see the
seats
are
crooked
but I
was
getting
a new
idea
Thursday November 27, 2008
Thanksgiving day
• I thought
about it all
day while
eating turkey
and fixings
• Got to have
the rear seat
at least 8
inches
higher so the
rider could
see out over
the head of
the driver
Friday November 28, 2008
• I was up all
night and
found this
busted
engine on
Craig's List
for $100
called the
man found
out the
address and
decided to
go for it
Friday November 28, 2008
• Chance and I
drove the
Nissan all the
way to
Pasadena
Maryland
• It was on the
east side of
Baltimore, Md.
• We could see
the Chesapeake
Bay from where
we were
Friday November 28, 2008
• We took 2
hours to drive
there arriving
about 3 pm
• I remembered
the truck
taillights were
not working
so we had to
leave quick to
get back
before dark
Friday November 28, 2008
• We
came
home
fast to
avoid
dark.
• Brake
lights on
the truck
were
working
ok this
day
Sunday November 30, 2008
• This is
the one
half of
the
engine
from
Grimms
• Going
after the
good
parts
Sunday November 30, 2008
• Here is the
other half of
the Grimm
engine
• I took out a
good
connecting
rod, Bearing
and all 4
pistons with
the cylinders
Sunday November 30, 2008
• Here is the
engine I tore
it down and
replaced the
rod that had
lost its bolts
and nut and
put it all
back
together
before 3 am
Monday
morning
Sunday November 30, 2008
• She sure
looks
good now
• I am
waiting on
the new j
pipes to
replace
the heater
boxes that
are not
needed
Sunday November 30, 2008
• The J
pipe
connects
this side
of the
head
exhaust
to the
muffler
The heater box goes between the head and the
muffler. The new j pipe will connect here and thw
heater box for winter heat will not be needed
Sunday November 30, 2008
• I know this
60
horsepower
engine will
purr like a
tomcat
when
cranked up
to 4000 rpm
• We should
be able to
keep up
with traffic
!!!
Monday December 1, 2008
• Looking closely
you see the 3

• Found 65 Chevy
Impala pedals in
back shed, Cut
them down and

the clutch and
brake

cylinder from
a 76 ford van
converted to a
pull linkage

on getting
the seat

• Vise
grips
hold the
gearshift
in a good
location
• Now to
figure
out how
to mount
it
Tuesday December 2, 2008
• Went to back shed
and found a
universal joint and
added it to the
gearshift rod back
at the transaxle
• I removed the
rubber isolator
that had originally
connected the
shift rod to the
transaxle
Tuesday December 2, 2008
• The new Ape
Handle bars
arrived but
were way too
short
• I decided to
fabricate my
own version
using The
original Suzuki
handlebars and
welded them to
the Harley
handlebars
Tuesday December 2, 2008
• I turned the
Harley golf
cart
handlebars
around, cut
off the
mount and

Suzuki
Handlebars
onto the
ends of the
Harley
