The Games are the most important
international sports event in the
world held every four years.
Ancient Olympic Games were held in
Olympia,776B.C. to 392 A.D.
Modern Games were first held in
1896 in Greece.
In 2008 Beijing will hold the 29th
Olympic Games.





Represents the continents of the world
joined in friendship.
The Olympic motto is Citius-Altius-Fortiu,
the words mean: Swifter, Higher, Stronger.
IOC: International Olympic Committee, in
Lausanne, Switzerland
In 1912,the Committee decided to allow
women to compete in the Games.

Beijing 2008 Olympic Games
emblem "Chinese Seal,

In Chinese, the word

English word "One". It
highlights the theme of "the
whole Mankind lives in the
same world and seeks for

With red lanterns, red weddings, red

联), lives in Beijing are shrouded in the
red. The red is the colour of Beijing and


With golden glazed tiles, golden leaves and
golden farmlands, the peculiar golden
colour of the glaze represents the glorious
history and landscape of Beijing.


Chinese scholar-tree has been selected by
Beijing residents to represent the image of
Beijing. It tells the theme of the "Green
Olympics".
The Blue-and-White
Porcelain Blue

The colour of the blue-and-white porcelain
makes the shade of the sky in Beijing's
bright summer and golden autumn. The
mild blue of the porcelain hints at the city's
history and its creativity.



The grey Great Wall winds in mountains
and grey siheyuan courtyards lie in hutongs.
The grey is the tone of traditional
architectures(建筑风格) in Beijing


Chinese intellectuals have been

The pole-vaulters attempt to clear a
crossbar, and the athletes use a flexible

• In personal description, the writer's tone
toward the subject is very important,
therefore ,in writing, one should show
his/her tone clearly, it could be angry,
sympathetic, amused, or admiring etc.
• To arouse the reader’s interest or
achieve better results, the writer usually
designs the opening and closing paras
skillfully.
Summary

Through a detailed description of Michael’s
physical and spiritual response in the hot
pole vault competition, the writer pictured
a hardworking, resolute and successful 17year-old boy vividly, while at the end of the
story impressed us by saying that the boy is
blind.
