Welcome!
We are ecstatic that you share our passion to fund
research that will make cancer chronic, not deadly.
When our founder, Lucy Stanovick, was diagnosed with
metastatic breast cancer in 2008, her research revealed
that metastasis causes more than 90% of cancer-related
deaths but receives less than 5% of funding. Party4Life
brings communities together to educate about the
pressing issue of metastasis and raise funds that directly
support metastatic cancer research. The event unifies
fighters and volunteers in a celebration that you can
make your own. Have fun!

Sample Letter to Potential Speaker
Dr. John Turner:
I don't know what motivated you to become the Medical Director of the Thyra M. Humphreys Center for Breast Health at Evangelical Community
Hospital, but I would like to share my inspiration with you.
About a year ago, breast cancer claimed my best friend’s mom. Lucy Stanovick was a beautiful woman who took news that would leave most
feeling powerless and spun it in a positive way. When Lucy was diagnosed with Stage IV Metastatic breast cancer in 2008, she began to research
the condition. She was struck by the fact that more than 90% of cancer-related deaths are related to metastasis, yet it receives less than 1% of
funding.
Lucy created The Lucy Fund, a subdivision of the National Foundation for Cancer Research (NFCR), and a fundraiser called Party4Life. She
created much more than a foundation and an event, however – she created hope. That hope has touched many people’s lives, including mine, and I
plan to spread Lucy’s message to the Selinsgrove community by hosting Party4Life at Susquehanna University on September 28, 2013 from 4 – 9
p.m.
The Lucy Fund is about making cancer a word, not a sentence. Party4Life is The Lucy Fund’s main fundraiser to make Stage IV Metastatic breast
cancer chronic, not deadly. While Lucy did not get to see her vision come true, her family and friends are still working towards making it a reality.
Alpha Phi Omega, a service fraternity with a chapter at Susquehanna University, and I believe that hosting Party4Life at Susquehanna will raise
substantial funds for the NFCR, helping to make Lucy’s dream come true.
Like I said, I'm not sure what or who inspired you, but I would like to know. We would love to have you speak at Party4Life to share your story
and knowledge, whatever you're willing to share. We believe you have Lucy’s message at heart and would be honored if you would be a part of our
fundraiser.
Thank you for taking the time to read this letter and for all that you do. We hope that you will consider working with The Lucy Fund in the future
or be able to recommend someone who could help us. For more information, please contact (570) 730-5547 or [email protected].
Thank you,
Samantha Phillips

Sample Press Release
Susquehanna University Fundraiser Supports Metastatic Breast Cancer Research
Selinsgrove, Penn. – Sept. 23, 2013 – Susquehanna University’s Alpha Phi Omega and Zeta Tau Alpha chapters are hosting a fundraising event entitled “Party
4 Life” Sept. 28, 2013, which will benefit The Lucy Fund, a donor-designated fund of the National Foundation for Cancer Research (NFCR).
The fund is named for Lucy Elicker Stanovick, an East Stroudsburg professor and Saylorsburg, Penn. resident who was diagnosed in 2008 at age 42 with stage
IV breast cancer. Rather than simply accepting her fate, Lucy took a stand and raised more than $200,000 towards the goal of making metastatic cancer a
chronic, rather than deadly, disease.
“At Lucy's memorial service, her husband John challenged everyone present to get involved in a cause that mattered to us. Metastatic cancer—cancer that has
spread to other parts of the body—is responsible for 90 percent of cancer mortalities, but it receives less than 5 percent of research funding,” said Sami Phillips,
organizer of the fundraiser. “Because of Lucy, we are on our way to making a change. John's challenge and Lucy's action inspired me to work with NFCR
through The Lucy Fund. We are excited and honored to come together as a community, continue Lucy’s legacy and do our part to raise support and awareness
for metastatic cancer research.”
The event will take place at the field house on Susquehanna’s campus from 4:00-9:00 p.m. and will feature carnival games, raffles, performances and speakers,
including Dr. John Turner, Medical Director of the Thyra M. Humphreys Center for Breast Health and Lucy’s family members.
The admission cost for “Party 4 Life” is $5 online and $10 at the door. To register, visit www.nfcr.org/party4lifeSU.
For more information and event updates, please visit www.facebook.com/LucyFund or contact Sami Phillips at [email protected].

The National Foundation for Cancer Research (NFCR) is a leading cancer research charity dedicated to funding cancer research and public education relating to
cancer prevention, earlier diagnosis, better treatments and, ultimately, a cure for cancer. NFCR promotes and facilitates collaboration among scientists to
accelerate the pace of discovery from bench to bedside.
Since 1973, NFCR has provided over $309 million in support of discovery-oriented cancer research focused on understanding how and why cells become
cancerous, and on public education relating to cancer prevention, detection, and treatment. NFCR scientists are discovering cancer's molecular mysteries and
