What Jesus Said and
Light Versus Darkness
Luke 1:1-4
1 Forasmuch as many have taken in hand to
set forth in order a declaration of those things
which are most surely believed among us,
2 Even as they delivered them unto us, which
from the beginning were eyewitnesses, and
ministers of the word;
3 It seemed good to me also, having had
perfect understanding of all things from the
very first, to write unto thee in order, most
excellent Theophilus,
4 That thou mightest know the certainty of
those things, wherein thou hast been
instructed.
"From the very first": (Greek, "anōthen", "from
above)." So translated in (John_3:31);
(John_19:11); (James_1:17); (John_3:15);
(John_3:17). In no other place is the Greek,
"anōthen", translated "from the very first." The
use by Luke of anothen is an affirmation that
his knowledge of these things, derived from
those who had been eye-witnesses from the
beginning (Luke_1:2) was confirmed by
revelation.
Theophilus – “lover of God”
Common first century name. Probably an
individual who was an official of some kind, for
he was called “Most Excellent”
John 1:1-18
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and
the Word was God.
2 The same was in the beginning with God.
3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing
made that was made.
4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men.
5 And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness
comprehended it not.
6 There was a man sent from God, whose name was John.
7 The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that
all men through him might believe.
8 He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that
Light.
9 That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh
into the world.
10 He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the
world knew him not.
John 1:1-18
11 He came unto his own, and his own received him not.
12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to
become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:
13 Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor
of the will of man, but of God.
14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we
beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,)
full of grace and truth.
15 John bare witness of him, and cried, saying, This was he of
whom I spake, He that cometh after me is preferred before me: for
he was before me.
16 And of his fulness have all we received, and grace for grace.
17 For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by
Jesus Christ.
18 No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son,
which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him.
The Pre-existing Word
John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and
the Word was with God, and the Word was
God.2 He was in the beginning with God.
3 All things came into being by Him, and apart
from Him nothing came into being that has
come into being.
John 1:14 And the Word became flesh,
and dwelt among us, and we beheld His
glory, glory as of the only begotten from
the Father, full of grace and truth.
The Pre-existing Word
Colossians 1:16 For by Him all things
were created that are in heaven and
that are on earth, visible and invisible,
whether thrones or dominions or
principalities or powers. All things were
created through Him and for Him. 17
And He is before all things, and in Him
all things consist.

For the word of the Lord is right,
And all His work is done in truth.
He loves righteousness and justice;
The earth is full of the goodness of the
Lord.
By the word of the Lord the heavens
were made,
And all the host of them by the breath
of His mouth.
He gathers the waters of the sea
together as a heap;
He lays up the deep in storehouses.
The Word is Personified
Psalm147:15
Praise the Lord, O Jerusalem!
Praise your God, O Zion!
13 For He has strengthened the bars of your
gates;
He has blessed your children within you.
14 He makes peace in your borders,
And fills you with the finest wheat.
15 He sends out His command to the earth;
His word runs very swiftly.

The Purpose and Method of Luke’s Gospel
Luke 1:1 Inasmuch as many have taken in hand to
set in order a narrative of those things which have
been fulfilled among us, 2 just as those who from the
beginning were eyewitnesses and ministers of the
word delivered them to us, 3 it seemed good to me also,
having had perfect understanding of all things from the
very first, to write to you an orderly account, most
excellent Theophilus, 4 that you may know the certainty
of those things in which you were instructed.
Luke wanted a Chronological Account
of the events of Yeshua’s Life.
• He was in the world,
• The world was made by him,
• and the world (GENTILES)knew him not.
• He came unto his own (the JEWS),
• and his own received him not.
• But as many as received him, to them gave
he power to become the sons of God, even to
them that believe on his name:
• Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will
of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of
God.
