The Power of God
A Powerful God
• What is Power?
– Authority and dominion
• God is Sovereign (1 Tim 6:15)
– Lord, Master, King, Potentate, Ruler, Reigns
– Strength and Ability
• God can bring About Whatever He pleases
• “And the Lord brought us out of Egypt with a mighty
hand and an outstretched arm, with great deeds of
terror, with signs and wonders.” (Deut 26:8)
A Powerful God
• He is Omnipotent (all-power) - Rev 19:6
– The Almighty
• He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High
Will abide in the shadow of the Almighty.
(Psalm 91:1)
• "And I will be a father to you, And you shall be
sons and daughters to Me," Says the Lord
Almighty. (2 Cor. 6:18)
• "I am the Alpha and the Omega," says the Lord
God, "who is and who was and who is to come,
the Almighty." (Rev 1:8)
A Powerful God
• He is Omnipotent (all-power)
• And the LORD said to Moses, “Is the LORD’S
power limited? Now you shall see whether My
word will come true for you or not” (Numbers
11:23).
• “‘Ah Lord GOD! Behold, Thou hast made the
heavens and the earth by Thy great power and
by Thine outstretched arm! Nothing is too
difficult for Thee’” (Jeremiah 32:17).
Creation
• “In the beginning God
created the heavens and
the earth” (Gen 1:1).
– He spoke creation into
existence
• God "spoke and it was
done, He commanded
and it stood fast" (Ps.
33:9).
The Awe Factor of God
Sustaining
• “And He is the radiance of His glory and the
exact representation of His nature, and
upholds all things by the word of His power.
When He had made purification of sins, He sat
down at the right hand of the Majesty on
high.”(Hebrews 1:3; cf Col 1:16-17)
The Exodus
• The 10 plagues displayed His
power
– Deut 4:37; 2 Kings 17:36
• Parting of the Red Sea
– Thus the LORD saved Israel that day
from the hand of the Egyptians,
and Israel saw the Egyptians dead
on the seashore. 31 And when
Israel saw the great power which
the LORD had used against the
Egyptians, the people feared the
LORD, and they believed in the
LORD and in His servant Moses
(Exodus 14:30-31).
Providing
• Daily Manna and sustenance
• Water
• Quail
• Everything for all men (Acts 17)
Jesus’ Miracles
• Power over disease
• Power over nature
• Power over the spiritual realm
The Resurrection of Christ
• “…His Son, who was born of a descendant of
David according to the flesh, who was declared
the Son of God with power by the resurrection
from the dead, according to the Spirit of holiness,
Jesus Christ our Lord” (Romans 1:3-4)
• “in accordance with the working of the strength
of His might which He brought about in Christ,
when He raised Him from the dead and seated
Him at His right hand in the heavenly places”
(Ephesians 1:19-20)
God’s Power to Forgive

• “For I am not ashamed
of the gospel, for it is
the power of God for
salvation to everyone
who believes”.

God’s Power to Forgive
• Why did God display His
power in creation?
• “He made from one man
every nation of mankind to
live on all the face of the
earth, having determined
their appointed times and
the boundaries of their
habitation, 27 that they would
seek God, if perhaps they
might grope for Him and find
Him”
– Acts 17:26-27
God’s Power towards US
• “I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened,
so that you will know what …the surpassing greatness
of His power toward us who believe, in accordance
with the working of the strength of His might which He
brought about in Christ, when He raised Him from the
dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly
places” (Ephesians 1:18-20)
• God can raise us from the worst of deaths
– Ephesians 2:1-9
– God Can Create and Re-Create
• “And God raised the Lord and will also raise us up by
his power” (1 Cor. 6:14)
God’s Power towards US
• “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus
Christ, who according to His great mercy has
caused us to be born again to a living hope
through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the
dead, to obtain an inheritance which is
imperishable and undefiled and will not fade
away, reserved in heaven for you, who are
protected by the power of God through faith for
a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.”
(1 Peter 1:3-5)
• If God sustains His creation, can He not sustain
and protect His children?
FAITH
• “So that your faith would not rest on the
wisdom of men, but on the power of God.” (1
Cor. 2:5)
Our faith must rest in God alone, not in ourselves or
other men.
