What are ‘i’ Devices?
• Today, we’ll review the:
• iPod touch
• iPhone
• iPad
• Other portable devices available from Apple
(No support for apps):
• iPod classic
• iPod nano
• iPod shuffle

• iPod Shuffle (Cost: $49)
• Small, portable audio playback device – more for accessing music, audiobooks,
and podcasts
• No LCD screen – has a big clickable control wheel
• Storage: 2GB; Battery life: Up to 15 hrs.
• Accessible – Voiceover button (battery status, song, playlists)
• iPod Nano (Cost: $149-$179)
• New design – same size as an iPod shuffle, however, it includes more storage and
a Multi-touch LCD screen – Support music, audiobooks, podcasts, FM radio, and
photos
• Storage capacity: 8GB, 16GB; Battery life: up to 15 hours
• Accessibility – Voiceover, adds high contrast settings, mono audio

• iPod touch is basically the iPhone without the cellular 3G or 4G service
• Its much cheaper to own, you can access all of the same apps, but you are limited
by your ability to make cellular phone calls (calls can be made over Wi-Fi using a
voice-over-IP app like Skype or Fring)

• iPod touch is basically the iPhone without the cellular 3G or 4G service
• What is the difference between 3G and 4G service?
• 4G is essentially the next generation of mobile phone network connectivity. 3G
can theoretically reach download speeds of up to 3MB/s (average is closer to
1MB/s), while 4G can reach theoretical speeds 10 to 100 times faster than 3G.
• Few 4G phones on the market, 4G areas are limited to major cities

LET’S TALK ABOUT ‘iOS’
Important Facts about the iOS
• ‘iOS’ is Apple’s mobile operating system software
• Arguably, the most exciting mobile operating system in the world today!!
• For the most part, iOS versions are the same across all platforms (i.e., iPod Touch,
iPhone, iPad). The latest version out there is iOS version 4.3.
• v4.3 is a free upgrade for certain iOS capable devices:
• iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4 GSM model (AT&T)
• iPod Touch 3rd and 4th generation models
• iPad and iPad 2
• What does this mean to have the same version of all devices?
• More uniformity in terms of accessibility
• No learning curve - If you know how to use one device, it is easy to use another
• User experiences are the same!
• iOS 5 coming some time this fall…No details yet, but Hadley will update you when
the time comes!
