‘Halt for health’ stand down 20 October – 24 October 2014 Water Wellbeing Week activities There’s a lot going on during this week, so get involved: • • • • • • ‘Halt for health’ stand down The Executive exercise (healthy lifestyle challenge) Healthy recipe competition Education for all on the health and safety hub Drop in at one of our open reservoirs Personal Medical Assessments for all Thames Water employees nutrition hydration sleep exercise What does good look like? Nutrition • • • The recommended daily calorie intake for men is 2,500 and 2,000 calories per day for women It’s recommended we eat at least five portions of fruit and veg a day Good nutrition can reduce our risk of serious health conditions such as heart disease and some cancers What does good look like? Hydration • • • It’s recommended that we drink a minimum of eight 200ml glasses of water every day Drinking fluid regularly prevents the effects of dehydration, including dizziness, headaches and tiredness We need more water if we’re very active or it’s very hot What does good look like? Exercise • • It’s recommended that adults aged 16 to 64 do 150 minutes of moderate intensity aerobic activity every week Our bodies are deigned to be active and there are many health benefits to regular exercise What does good look like? Sleep • • Most healthy adults require around eight hours sleep per night, to function at their best during the day Getting the right amount of sleep can reduce your risk of heart disease, improve your ability to cope with stress and help maintain a healthy waistline Are you taking the healthy lifestyle challenge? • • You could take on the Exec as a team, working together to obtain more healthy lifestyle credits You could set yourself a personal challenge and see if you can achieve the ‘perfect’ week Employee assistance programme Advice on health and wellbeing Sometimes we need a little help and guidance to stay happy, healthy and fully focused on life and work.
