in passive situations…

◦ Used to talk about the past, in 3 situations
◦ Indefinite time
Past action where time is not important or mentioned
◦ Number of times
Past action where you mention the frequency
◦ Period of time
Past action within a period of time, using for…or
since…

We use all of this with the present perfect to
Ask and Talk About actions with visitors…
For example:

Have you taken a tour of the White House?
As a matter of fact, I haven’t…because I’m too lazy…
Wait a minute…
Ms El-Hendi, you have lived in the USA for almost 20
years…
Have you ever gone to the top of the Statue of Liberty?

someone’s life experiences…

NOTICE: You can use them both if you want…
Use yet at the end of questions about recent
experiences (not life experiences)
◦ For Example:
Have you been to Rabat yet?

Have Ms. El-Hendi and her friends been to the Kasbah
in Ouarzazate yet?

With the Present Perfect in the Negative:
◦ Americans usually don’t say the “/t/” sound, so:
