Unit 1
Human body systems
By Tyler Burt, Janey Stevens, Jess
Guse, and Kayla Morin
Body systems
• Nervous- sends electric messages from brain to
body to tell the body what to do. Structures
include: brain, spinal cord, nerves, eyes.
• Respiratory- receives oxygen . Brings in oxygen
and releases carbon dioxide. Structures include:
bronchial tubes, epiglottis, trachea.
• Urinary- filters water and releases toxins.
Structures include: kidneys, bladder, ureter, and
urethra.
Body system
• Immune- keeps you healthy. Structures include:
skin, appendix, lymph nodes, spleen.
• Digestive- breaks down what you eat, absorbs
nutrients, and disposes of waste. Structures
include: small intestine, liver, salivary glands.
• Endocrine- main function is to make hormones
using chemical messaging. Structures include:
adrenal glands, pancreas thyroid.
Body Systems
• Cardiovascular- carries blood and oxygen
throughout the body. Structures include: heart,
ventricles, arteries, veins.
• Skeletal- framework for muscle attachment,
protects the soft tissues and organs, stores and
releases minerals, creates red blood cells. There
are 2 divisions in the skeletal system, axial- core,
axis for the rest of the body. Appendicular- parts
that are off the axel.
Interactions between systems
• The Human body itself is a system composed of
many different systems. No component of the
body works alone.
• Cardiovascular system interacts with the
nervous system by transporting nutrients and
oxygen to the nerves and brain.
• Immune system works with the respiratory by
attacking anything harmful that you breathe in.
What is a system?
• A system is a group of parts that work together
for a specific function, such as a body system.
• The failure of one system can cause the failure of
another which will result in death.
Autopsy
• An Autopsy is a examination of the body to
determine cause of death.
• Tools: scale, syringes, ladle, scalpel, garden
sheers, rib cutters.
Confidentiality
• HIPAA- Health Insurance Portability and
Accountability Act
• HIPAA is designed to give specific rights to
patients about their personal health care
information. It protects their privacy.
• Can be broken for a patient who is under 18 or if
someone signed a release form saying the
information could be shared with another
person
• Very important to all careers in the medical field.
