Expected benefits
• Short term: support to the
implementation of running policies and
legislation
• Medium Term: support to the definition
and formulation of new policies
• Longer Term: impacting the formulation
and implementation of policies with a
global reach
Access to data
• GMES: a public good
• Overriding goal is to provide full and open
access data and information with minimum
restrictions
• Need to distinguish between data policy for
Sentinels, contributing missions, GMES
service products & information
• Security restrictions may apply
International Dimension
• Fundamental to contribute to and have access to a wide
range of consistent Earth Observation data over long
time spans and covering the full globe
• GMES partners should ensure a coordinated approach
for an international cooperation strategy building on
existing cooperation schemes
• •Global cooperation (GEO, CEOS)
–define the European contribution to these international
initiatives
–Allow GMES access to observation data not owned by
Europe
