• Authorizes $9.7 Billion over 5 Years • $5.315 Billion to Amtrak for Capital Grants • $2.949 Billion to Amtrak for Operating Grants • $1.404 Billion to Retire Debt

INTERCITY PASSENGER RAIL

• $1.9 Billion for State Capital Investment Grants • FY 2009-2013 • $325 Million for Congestion Capital Grants • FY 2010-FY 2013 (States and/or Amtrak) • 80/20 Federal/State Cost Share

HIGH SPEED RAIL

• • • $1.5 Billion over 5 Years to States and/or Amtrak to develop high speed rail (110 mph) Directs DOT to conduct RFP to develop, build and operate high speed rail systems in 11 corridors, including NEC from Washington, DC to NYC $5 million for preliminary engineering for the best approach in each corridor

NORTHEAST CORRIDOR (NEC) • Provides 100% federal funding for State of Good Repair (SOGR) • $60 million for Baltimore Tunnel Alignment • Creates NEC Infrastructure and Operations Advisory Commission

RAIL SAFETY

• • • • Authorize $1.6 Billion for Rail Safety Programs $50 Million per year for “Positive Train Control” technology Authorize $3 million annually for highway-rail grade crossing safety grants Authorize $5 million annually for safety improvements to railroad infrastructure
