• The idea
– A simple yet an effective project
Eco-Schools: An international programme for environmental
education that aims to empower students to follow a sustainable
lifestyle.
The kindergarten
The elementary school
The secondary school
Laugalaekjarskoli
A program designed to encourage City
divisions to include environmental
actions in their operation and to
support environmental actions in the
City´s many divisions.
Green steps is a simple and accessible
system based on a number of actions
affecting the environment.
Recycle waste, reduce use of electricity
and heat, increase the share of
environmental friendly procurement and
increase the usage of hydrogen transport
for employees during working hours.
Signed up for participation January 25th 2013
How can I help?
The Project
- A questionnaire
- A presentation
- A poster
Why a questionnaire?
1. Introduction.

2. Do you think it´s important to preserve nature?
3. Do you sometimes wonder from where we get the material to make products
(e.g. the material cell phones are made of, plastic in plastic bottles, etc.)?
4. Do you sometimes wonder what happens to the products/material we throw away?
5. Do you think it´s important to recycle waste?
6. Is waste sorted at your home?
7. Is more than one color of outdoor-garbage bin at your home?
8. Do you (or anyone in your family) take bottles and cans to the recycling center?
9. Do you want waste to be sorted in Laugalaekjarschool?

The presentation Consumption/ Waste – the main points
We are using Earth´s resources
faster than they can be replenished.
Humanity´s ecological footprint is
estimated at 1.5 Earths. We are
“borrowing” resources from future
generations, polluting heavily and
putting pressure on tipping points in
the natural system.
We can´t “pay the loan” unless we
live sustainably: Don´t use Earth´s
resources faster than it can
produce them. Lets use Earth´s
resources wisely, that is, without
preventing people in the future
from using them.
The law of conservation of mass tells us
that waste remains on Earth. In the
natural world the waste of
one
organism become nutrient for other
organims.
Humans, on the other hand, produce
enormous amounts of waste that
nature can´t recycle and therefore it
pollutes the environment.
But we can, with
cooperation, good will
and creativity reduce
waste production.
