We have a new Language Arts curriculum this year for reading and writing.
Go Math! aligns with the Common Core Standards. We are currently working on
multiplication, division, and fractions.
In Science, we have three inquiry based units throughout the year. They are the
human body, chemicals, and inventions.
In Social Studies, students learn about communities and geography. They also learn

Readers Workshop
Readers Workshop emphasizes the importance of student engagement and the interaction
between the text and reader. It provides differentiated instruction in reading while focusing
on the teaching of reading strategies. The purpose of Readers Workshop is to foster
independence among readers!
There are seven important strategies that all readers must be able to apply to the text in
order to read and understand content. The seven strategies are:
•Making Connections to prior knowledge (text to world, text to self, and text to text)
•Creating Mental Images or Visualization (using the five senses to create a mental
image)
•Asking Questions (who, what, when, where, how, & why)
•Determining Importance (the big idea & author's purpose)
•Monitoring Comprehension and Meaning (Does the text make sense to me?)
•Making Inferences/Drawing Conclusions (author's clues + what you already know)
•Synthesizing (retelling & summarizing)

so. These treats will be eaten during our snack
time or after lunch. Please make sure there are
no nuts or traces of nuts in anything you send in.
Also, please do not send birthday party
invitations to be distributed at school unless all
children in our class receive an invitation.
Snack
Kids need snacks! When healthy snack choices are
made, they provide the nutrients and calories kids
need for growth, good health and energy to get
through the day. Please pack your child a healthy
snack to enjoy on a daily basis.

VOLUNTEERS and VISITORS are welcome! There are
many opportunities for you to be involved in the classroom
