Canada is the largest country in the American continent and the second
largest country in the world. It has a population of 24 million in an area of
9, 976, 185 square kilometers. Most of the population are descended from
European immigrants: 45 % from British and Irish ancestors, 29 % from
French ancestors, 6 % from German ancestors. Only 1,5 % of today’s
population are descended from the original Eskimo and Indian inhabitants.
Britain and France fought over Canada for nearly two hundred years.
Finally in 1763 Britain took control. Canada is now an independent
country with its own Prime Minister, but the head of state is still the
British Queen.
Canada is a bilingual country. The majority of the population speak
English. Most French speakers live in the province of Quebec. Canada’s
largest city, Montreal, is in Quebec. It has a population of 2,720,413. But
Montreal is not the capital city. The capital is Ottawa in the province of
Ontario.
Canada is a huge country. Its longest river, the Mackenzie, flows for 1,600
km into the Arctic Ocean. It is also a very rich country. It has many
industries. It produces almost every mineral (gold, silver, iron, copper,
etc.). Canada is the world’s biggest producer of nickel, the second biggest
producer of zinc and the third biggest producer of lead. Canada is also one
of the world’s biggest producers of wood and paper (44 % of the land is
forest). Agriculture (mostly wheat and cattle) is important, too.
The national emblem of Canada is the maple leaf and the currency is the
Canadian dollar.

Vancouver (i/væŋˈkuːvər/ or /vænˈkuːvər/), officially the City of Vancouver, is a coastal
seaport city on the mainland of British Columbia, Canada. Vancouver is the most densely
populated Canadian municipality, and the fourth most densely populated city over 250,000
residents in North America, behind New York City, San Francisco. The original
settlement, named Gastown, grew around the Hastings Mill logging sawmill and a nearby
tavern, both established in 1867. Enlarging to become the townsite of Granville, with the
announcement that the railhead would reach the site it was renamed "Vancouver" and
incorporated as a city in 1886. By 1887, the transcontinental railway was extended to the
city to take advantage of its large natural seaport, which soon became a vital link in a
trade route between the Orient, Eastern Canada, and Europe. As of 2009, Port Metro
Vancouver is the busiest and largest port in Canada, and the most diversified port in North
America. Vancouver is consistently named as one of the top five worldwide cities for
livability and quality of life,[15][16] and the Economist Intelligence Unit acknowledged it as
the first city to rank among the top-ten of the world's most liveable cities[17] for five
consecutive years.

Toronto (/tɵˈrɒntoʊ/, local /ˈtrɒnoʊ/) is the most populous city in Canada and the provincial capital of
Ontario. It is located in Southern Ontario on the northwestern shore of Lake Ontario. The history of
Toronto began in the late 18th century when the British Crown purchased its land from the Mississaugas
of the New Credit. The settlement established there became York, which lieutenant governor John Graves
Simcoe designated as the capital of Upper Canada. The city was ransacked in the Battle of York during
the War of 1812. In 1834, York became a city and renamed to Toronto. It was damaged in two huge fires
in 1849 and 1904. Since 1954, the city occasionally expanded its borders through amalgamation with
surrounding municipalities, most recently occurring in 1998. s Canada's commercial capital, it is
home to the Toronto Stock Exchange and the headquarters of Canada's five largest
banks.Leading economic sectors in the city include finance, business services,
telecommunications, aerospace, transportation, media, arts, publishing, software
production, medical research, education, tourism, and engineering.Toronto is considered an

Montreal (i/ˌmʌntriːˈɒl/ French: Montréal , pronounced [ˈmɒ̃ʁeal] ( listen)) is a city in the Canadian
province of Quebec. It is the largest city in the province, the second-largest in Canada and the 9thlargest in North America. Originally called Ville-Marie, or "City of Mary", it is named after Mount
Royal, the triple-peaked hill in the heart of the city. The city is on the Island of Montreal, which took its
name from the same source as the city,] and a few much smaller peripheral islands, the largest of which
is Île Bizard.
French is the city's official languageand is the language spoken at home, as Québécois

produced much talent in the fields of visual arts, theatre, music, and dance. Yet, being at
the confluence of the French and the English traditions, Montreal has developed a unique

events, particularly festivals. The city's largest festival is the Just for Laughs comedy
festival, which is the largest in the world of its kind. Other popular festivals include the
Montreal International Jazz Festival, Montreal World Film Festival, Les FrancoFolies de
Montréal, Nuits d'Afrique, Pop Montreal, Divers/Cité, Fierté Montréal and the Montreal
