What Is FCCLA?

• An organization for students who
are enrolled or have been enrolled
in Family & Consumer Sciences
classes for at least one semester
FCCLA History
• Feb. 1917 – Smith Hughes Act
Signed
• June 1945 – FHA founded in
Chicago
• Feb. 1946 – Oklahoma FHA
chartered as 18th State
Association
• July 1965 – FHA and New
Homemakers merged

FCCLA Mission
To promote personal growth and
leadership development through family
and consumer sciences education.
Focusing on the multiple roles of family
member, wage earner, and community
leader, members develop skills for life
through character development, creative
and critical thinking, interpersonal
communication, practical knowledge
and vocational preparation.
FCCLA Purposes
1. To provide opportunities for
personal development and
preparation for adult life.
2. To strengthen the function of the
family as a basic unit of society.
3. To encourage democracy through
cooperation in the home and family.
4. To encourage individual and group
involvement in helping achieve
global cooperation and harmony.
