•Everyone has the responsibility to help make their workplace safe
•IF YOU DO NOT ADHERE TO ENDEAVOUR INDUSTRIES WHS RULES AND
PROCEDURES YOU MAY BE DISMISSED
•As employees we also have the responsibilities and are required to;
-Work in a healthy and safe manner
-Take reasonable care for the health and safety of others
-Co-operate with any health, safety or welfare requirements and
attend all drills and training
-Report all accidents, incidents and near misses
-Not disrupt work by deliberately creating risks or fears
Use of Equipment
•No plant or machinery may be operated unless all safety
items are properly in place, secure and in good working
condition
•Hazardous substances and chemicals must only be handled
by employees that have been properly trained.
•No company vehicle can be driven by employees without
prior permission from the section manager
Safety Equipment
•All employees must wear any safety equipment as instructed by
their supervisor
•All safety equipment must be looked after, used or operated correctly
to the manufacturers specifications
Manual Handling
•Many injuries that occur at work are caused by
strain , particularly back injuries
•To prevent strain injuries caused by lifting;
Use lifting devices
•
Lift small weights only
•
Get Help
•
Use correct lifting techniques
•
Take the trolley to the load
•
Do not carry large objects
•
Manual Handling
•Twisting, hard pulling of objects and other awkward
movements also cause strain injuries
•Doing the same task over and over again can also
lead to injuries
•Think about how you are going to move or lift
•Avoid the following movements as much as possible;
-Above the shoulder reach
-Forward bending of the back
-Sideways bending of the back
-Twisting of the back
Safety Systems
Incident, Injury and Hazard Reporting
• REPORT ALL INJURIES AND SAFETY HAZARDS TO YOUR SUPERVISOR NO MATTER HOW
MINOR
• All faulty equipment, dangerous situations or dangerous behavior must also be reported
• Your supervisor will liaise with the division manger and quality manager to ensure that it
has been dealt with in a satisfactory manner
• All reports will be presented to the WHS committee
• Incident reports can be found on EQIS
Workplace Injury Management
•Helps any employee who is injured to get back to work
•If you are injured at work you must report the injury straight away
•There is a WorkCover poster on each notice board outlining;
-Employer responsibilities
-Employee responsibilities
-What to expect
-Return to work
-What to do if there is a problem
•Endeavour's workers compensation insurer is
Emergency Procedures
•In the event of an emergency an air horn will sound
•All people are to exit through the nearest safe emergency
exit door
•Wardens are identifiable by their coloured hard hats
•Everyone is to follow all directions made by the wardens and
quickly make their way to the Emergency Assembly point
•Under no circumstances are you to go to
the lunch room, toilet or to collect your bag
Risk Assessment and
Safe Work Procedures
•Risk Management is the systematic way in which WHS issues
are addressed to prevent injury and illness in the workplace
•Risk Management process has three steps;
1. Hazard Identification
2. Risk Assessment
3. Risk Elimination and Control
First Aid
•There are nominated first aid officers at each work site and
their photos are displayed on all notice boards.
•All Disability Support Workers are required to hold a current
First Aid certificate.
Housekeeping and Cleanliness
•Keep passageways , walkways and exit doors clear
•Store and stack materials and products safely
•Keep work areas tidy
•Prevent the spread of disease in the workplace by:
-Keeping areas where food is eaten clean
-Washing up your dishes
-Disposing of any food scraps in the correct bin
-Washing your hands before eating
Mobile Phones
•Use of mobile phones is restricted to break times only
•Safety of all workers is put at risk due to lack of
concentration
•Endeavour will not be responsible for the replacement
of any mobile phone broken, lost or stolen at work
•Staff and volunteers are not permitted to take photos
of supported employees or service users on their
mobile phones
Work Health and Safety
Committee
•Endeavour has two WHS committees; Cessnock and Weston
•Committees meet every two months
•Posters of the committee members are on each notice board
•Committee members represent employee interests to management
•The committees discuss issues affecting the safety, health and well-being of everyone at
the workplace
•If you have any safety issues that you would like raised at the meetings,
please notify your supervisor or a WHS committee representative.
ENDEAVOUR’S SAFETY RULES
•Do not smoke in any building or non-smoking area
•Follow all warning signs & emergency procedures
•Report all injuries
•Report all hazards
•Wear suitable enclosed footwear
•Wear personal protective clothing and equipment, if required
•Keep work areas clean and tidy
•Keep walkways and aisles clear at all times
•Stack materials and products in a safe manner
•Keep employee toilets and facilities clean
•Use garbage bins to dispose of all rubbish
ENDEAVOUR’S SAFETY RULES
•Do not be at work affected by alcohol or drugs
•Do not operate plant or machinery unless you are authorised and
competent.
•Do not operate any machinery unless guards or other safety items are
correctly in place, secure and working
•Do not drive company vehicles, unless authorised
•Do not climb or walk on pallets
•Do not handle dangerous chemicals, unless authorised
•You must have your safety vest on before you enter the warehouse at
Weston and keep it on for the whole time that you
are in the warehouse, working or not.

Sun safety in the workplace
• How much do you know about sun safety –
lets check
• Which workers are exposed
• What is the length of exposure
• What is the likely injury which could occur
• What policy/procedures do you have in place
• What review process do you have in place to
ensure implemented/effective
Risk factors and skin cancer
• Exposure to sun’s UV radiation can lead to skin
and eye damage and ultimately skin cancer
• Factors contributing to risk include skin type,
family history and number of moles
• Sunburn or tan is a sign of skin cells in trauma
• Using solariums before age of 35 increases risk
of melanoma by 75%
UV RADIATION AND VITAMIN D
• Balance risk of skin cancer with need for
vitamin D
• When the UV level reaches 3 or above sun
protection is needed
• Below 3 is when you can get your vitamin D
• Use the sunsmart UV alert of the Sunsmart
Iphone app
Five step approach to sun protection

Slop on SPF 30+ sunscreen
Slap on a sun protective hat
Seek shade
Slide on some sunglasses
Early detection
• Get to know your skin and what is normal for
you
• Check you skin regularly for suspicious spots
• Check your whole body and see your doctor as
soon as possible if you notice something
unusual
Assault response best practice
• Assault or workplace violence includes;
– Physical assault
– Threatened assault or near miss
– Verbal abuse
– Witness to an incident
