PROGRAMMING COMMITTEE – FUNCTIONS
Policy
Set the programing policy
Set the programming process
Liaise with the membership and the board on policy issues
Allocation
Ensure equal and merit based access to airtime
Identify programming gaps (based on audience feedback and community needs)
Conduct the reallocation process semi-annually
Consider audience feedback
Ideas
Arrange airtime access for special events
Consider new programming ideas (i.e. News, Voice tracking overnights)
Assist with station branding and cross-promotion
PROGRAMMING COMMITTEE – STRUCTURE

Annual election at the first Members & Presenters meeting after the AGM
The programming committee will select any casual vacancies for these positions

Co-opted
Up to 2 positions
Board
Representative
To ensure a diversity of views the board may co-opt additional members to the
Programming Committee at any time
The board will advertise on-air and online annually to seek a community
representative to sit on the committee (using a merit based process)
Selected by the board at the first board meeting after the AGM
The representative will facilitate the programming process & hold a casting vote
Liaise with the board about the committee’s decisions and activities
Other directors may attend meetings as an observer
BOARD INTERACTION
•
Any decision by the Programming Committee can be appealed:
• Firstly, to the Programming Committee
• If you are unhappy with the response the board can also review the decision
•
In exceptional circumstances the board retains the power:
• To overturn a decision by the Programming Committee
• Disband and/or reform the Programming Committee
• The board will set general policy direction for the Programming Committee
• The Programming Committee is required to report back to the board

Twice-yearly the programming committee will consider appropriate reallocation to accommodate any requested moves, new programs and
extension of airtime requests.
Special events
The programming committee reserves the right to pre-empt a program in
a case of a special event.
GENERAL PROGRAMMING PRIORITIES
• Preference is given to:
• Programs with substantial local content (music or spoken word)
• Programs that have local links within the community
• Unique programs (ones not currently catered for on the station
• Priority need (identified by the programming committee from time
to time)
• Programs that have indicated more availability
• Programs that involve a number of presenters / producers
• Programmers that show a commitment to the station and/or
station activities
• Programs that commit to training and to the review the process
PROGRAMMING REQUIREMENTS
• Programs must meet the following requirements
• Complete initial training and ongoing training as required
• Meet all broadcasting regulations (station & regulatory)
• Commit to the allocated timeslot
• Ensure a quality program is produced
• Promote their program, other programs and the station
• Attend stations meetings and events
• Respect the station equipment
