Biodiversity
At least 56% of European crop production depends on insect pollination.
•
Water management
Agriculture accounts for 24 % of total water use in Europe (up to 80% in some parts of
Southern Europe) and farming is responsible for over 50% of nitrogen in water.
•
Soil
The overall cost of soil degradation in the EU is estimated at €38 billion/year.
•
Climate change
Agriculture is responsible for 9.6% of EU GHG emissions
•
Pesticides
The annual costs of pesticides for the environment and health are estimated respectively
to around €206m and €133m.

or in certain cases even increasing production capacity
