Introduction
• The UEMS-ORL Section and Board has developed an European
training programme and a log book for Head and Neck Surgery.
• The training programme is based on the accepted UEMS-ORL
training programme in Otorhinolaryngology-Head and Neck
Surgery
• The subspeciality training programme has been accepted by all
UEMS member states
• The training programme should serve as a guideline for approved
training centers to enable head and neck fellows to meet the
European standard

The$aim$is$to$establish$guidelines$for$accreditation$of$European$ENT$departments$for$subspecialty$
training$in$Head9$and$Neck$Surgery.$
The$board$of$the$UEMS9ORL$section$will$establish$the$criteria$for$the$national$committees$that$will$be$
responsible$for$practical$processing$arrangements,$for$the$monitoring$and$annual$reporting$for$centre$
accreditation$and$for$the$periodic$institutional$and$programme$reviews.$

9To$provide$strong$leadership$and$support$for$aspiring$Head9$and$Neck$Surgeons$in$all$aspects$relating$
to$their$education$and$surgical$practice$leading$to$become$fully$qualified$as$Head9$and$Neck$Surgeons$
on$a$higher$level.$
9To$provide$the$educational$institutions$a$chance$to$be$qualified$as:$“Approved$by$the$UEMS9ORL$
Accreditation$Committee”$$

Introduction:&
9A$collaborative$partnership$should$be$established$between$the$UEMS$Accreditation$Committee$and$
the$surgical$education$Centre.$
$9After$a$successful$approval$the$Centre$is$awarded$with$the$highest$form$of$recognition$of$its$
educational$activities.$
9Centre$accreditation$has$to$be$very$carefully$considered$and$all$aspects$of$current$and$previous$
education$provision$have$to$be$analysed$and$only$in$cases$where$there$is$clear$evidence$that$a$Centre$
is$a$reliable$and$well9established$and$strategically$important$partner$for$the$UEMS9ORL$Accreditation$
Committee,$accreditation$for$the$whole$Centre$can$be$considered$and$granted.$
