Congruent Figures Geometry Mr. Zampetti Unit 3, Day 7

Congruent Figures • Congruent figures are exactly the same size and shape.

• You can slide, flip, or turn one congruent shape to fit onto the other.

Congruent Circles • All congruent circles have congruent radii.

• What is the radius of the second circle?

r = 5 r = ?

Congruent Polygons • Congruent Polygons have congruent corresponding parts.

A D B C G F H E

Corresponding Parts • When naming corresponding parts, always name vertices in the same order.

EX. Polygon ABCD  Polygon EFGH  B corresponds to  F  AD corresponds to EH   B   AD  F EH B H G A E C F D

With A Partner… • Name the congruent triangles and list all the congruent corresponding parts: B Y X A C Z

• • • •  ABC   XYZ  A   X  B   Y  C   Z Answer: • AB  • BC  XY YZ • AC  XZ Can we say AC  ZX?

No because vertices are be named in the same order.

Practice • Given that both triangles are congruent, Find the value of all the variables x = 90° y = 53° z = 17 y° z 17 37° x°
