BLENDED LEARNING
Blended Learning
• Considerable time will be spent during our
Summer PD sessions getting into what
blended learning is, and how it will look in Des
Moines with the adoption of our new
materials.
Blended Learning
Blended learning involves an instructional
shift in some portion of the day to an
online environment. This shift is intended
to make learning more productive by
giving teachers better tools, more
time, and informative data.
•
Blended Learning
• Blended learning involves an
instructional shift in some portion
of the day to an online
environment.
• This shift is intended to make
learning more productive by
giving teachers…
–better tools to deliver instruction
–more time to meet individual needs
of students
–informative data to drive instruction
and monitor progress
What is Blended Learning?
What it IS
Utilizing available tools and
resources to enhance and
extend core instruction
Utilizing
software/technology data to
guide instruction for
students on and individual
basis
Utilizing resources to
enhance and extend core
instruction for students
What it ISN’T
Putting a student on a
software program that isn’t
tied to their core
instruction
Putting a student on a
software program and not
looking at and interpreting
data
Expecting a resource to be
the primary provider of
core student instruction
Blended Learning
• Classifying K-12 Blended
Learning
• A simple Google search
of: Innosight Classifying
K-12 Blended Learning
We know this is hard, but important
work…
It will require us to focus on a
small number of ambitious goals
and make the implementation
of technology the daily agenda.
Goals for our program
• Support students in obtaining the Common Core
Mathematics Standards through technology
based instruction.
• Utilize the Go Math materials upgrade to design a
blended learning environment.
• Provide students with personalized
instruction, practice and formative feedback
that support a competency based system.
