Largest federal program supporting Pre-K-12
The purpose is to offset the effects of
poverty.
Program provides supplemental reading,
math and early childhood services to eligible
students.
Parental services are provided.




1965 – Elementary and Secondary School Act
(ESEA)
1981 – Chapter I - under the Education and
Consolidation and Improvement Act (ECIA)
1994 – Title I – Improving America’s Schools
Act (IASA)
2001 – Title I – No Child Left Behind Act –
(NCLB)



Title 1 services enhance the regular
classroom
Ultimate goal is for students to meet high
standards.
Parental Involvement plays a large part.



Schools are ranked according to poverty level.
Iberia Parish uses the number of children
eligible for free and reduced priced lunch as
the poverty measure to rank schools.
Schools with a poverty rate above 75% must
receive funding.





