Checklist
 You will be required to perform an apparatus readiness check

Apparatus Maintenance
 Maintenance – keeping something in a state of usefulness or
readiness.
 Repair – to restore or replace that which has become
inoperable.
Apparatus Maintenance
 Engine
The most important phases of engine maintenance are regular
service inspections.
Apparatus Maintenance
 Daily Maintenance:
Includes checking oil level, radiator coolant level, fuel levels,
tires (proper inflation, wear, cuts), equipment inventory,
checking visible and audible warning signals.
Apparatus Maintenance
 Weekly Maintenance:
Bleeding moisture from air brake tanks, removing equipment
from apparatus and cleaning, and the starting of all portable
engines.
Apparatus Maintenance
 Periodic Maintenance:
Includes lubricating all motor, gear, or hand operated
appliances according to manufacturer’s specification
Apparatus Maintenance
 Batteries
Check voltage, specific gravity & corrosion
Check terminals & cables
 Air Filter
Should be serviced by qualified personnel as required.
In Cab Inspection
 Mirrors & seat are properly adjusted
 All electrical switches are in the off position prior to starting
the apparatus
 Let engine warm up before putting under full load (non
emergency responses)
 Inspect seat belts, cuts & fraying
In Cab Inspection
 Gauges are properly working:
 Speedometer, RPM gauge
 Oil Pressure, Fuel
 Ammeter/Voltmeter
 Air pressure gauges,
 Temperature gauges
 Vacuum & Hydraulic Pressure gauges
