Alaris Update
for Lexington Medical Center
January 4, 2012
Nurses- please remember to enter your unit number when the pump
asks for “Patient ID”. This also needs to be updated any time the
pump moves with the patient to a new unit and is part of the
medication reconciliation process.
Requesting a data set change or report an issue: Do this on
LexLoop by entering the Alaris Infusion Pump site, then select Data
Set Change/Issues Request Form, then click on “Submit a Request”.
Complete the form and “Submit” it.
Blood Tubing now has shorter spikes to help prevent accidental
punctures to blood bags. Please continue to be careful and spike bags
in the parallel position.
Pumps are to be turned OFF, then back ON and information reentered any time changes are made to medication parameters
(including patient weight) in order to follow best patient safety
practices.
Thanks to your input- there will be a new Guardrails data set that
will take place on January 4, 2012. As you power on a pump and
select “New Patient- yes or no”, look for the library date. If it
reads “LMC10072011”- it is the old library. If it reads
“LMC01042012” it is the updated library. Some of the changes
include:
–
–
IVF + Bicarb will be added to the Guardrail IV fluids choices

entering the Alaris Infusion Pump site and choosing “Alaris
Updates”.
