In the Czech Republic
Basic information
1774: Mary Theresa made a patent for
compulsory school attendance
It is compulsory from 6 to 15 years
School grades: pre-school, primary,
secondary and tertiary education
Pre-school
Nursery
Kindergarten (from 3 to 6 years)
Learn basic things (colors, animals, how
to dress up etc.)
Primary school
From six to fifteen years
Learn to read, write, count,foreign
language (English), history, geography…
At the last class kids have to pass
entrance exams to secondary school
Secondary school
From fifteen to eighteen years
Grammar, technical and vocational
schools
Subjects depend on the type of school,
mainly it is Czech, Math, English and
Social studies
Finished with leaving exams (Maturita)
Students
Each class has its own classroom, for
some special subjects students have to
move to other classrooms or laboratory
Each student has his own box for
clothes, shoes and books
We have to wear slippers

One lessons lasts 45 minuts, lunch break lasts
30 minuts
We have usually 7 lessons a day (35 in a
week)
In class there is usually up to 30 students (24
in our school)
Summer holidays: 1.7.-31.8.
We have three weeks of other holidays
(Christmas week, Spring week and some more
days during the school year)
