CwMs
I.
II.
Mild (ambulate with out prosthesis & orthoses)
Moderate (difficulties in locomotion, self
help & communication)
III.
Severe
(in capacitated and confined)
2.Types of motor disorders
2.1 Orthopedic Impairments
Cerebral Palsy
(neuromuscular disorders, damage in CNS)
• Spasticity (jerky & poor coordination)
• Ataxic (poor sense of balance)
• Atotheiod (involuntary movement )
• Hypotonic (loose muscular control )
Poliomyelitis
( acute disease that inflames the spinal cord & the
brain) It is a communicable disease caused by polo
virus.
2.Types of motor disorders cont.
2.1 Anatomical/ Topological
• Quadriplegia (4 limbs)
• Paraplegia ( 2 legs )
• Hemiplegia(one side of the body)
• Diplegia(major involvement of the legs,
less involvement of the arms)
• Monoplegia (1 limb)
• Triplegia (3 limbs arms & leg)
2.2 Health related motor
disorders

Cystic Fibrosis (fatal childhood disease,
thick mucus in respiratory & intestine)



Heart Conditions
Asthma
Diabetes
2.3 Musculoskeletal disorders

Muscular dystrophy (progressive
deterioration of the body as a result of atrophy

Leprosy (chronic which damages the nerve
cell-fine & gross motor)


Limb deficiencies (congenital or acquired)
2.4 Accident – based
Impairments

8. Modifying the Environment



Changing desk & table
Adding adaptive devices
Using word processors
computers etc rather than
handwriting responses.
8.Modifying the Environment
cont..


Using study buddies in activities
that require extensive writing.
Moving a class or activity to an
accessible part of a school
building
