Presentation aims to…

Explain some Computer Systems – aka 3 letter ac.

Why do we need a GIS system? And how we did it.

Look at the system itself.

Advantages of the system.

Holdings….. AIM.

How Computer systems fit together. (Conceptually)

Why we need a GIS system??…..

 As TB is a contagious disease. (Wildlife) – Important to know full extent of Epidemiological unit/Herd/Holding.

– Important to have contiguous herds and their cattle populations.

– Important to understand geographical features and habitat e.g. land use and type, roadways, commonage, waterways, forestry.

– Also to see how herds ‘fit’ into the landscape/geography – Represent/present maps in a coherent and user friendly way

Spatial Location…..

  Used to pinpoint exact location of farmhouse or premises.

Can be used to create “spatial layer”

X = 0, Y = 0.

Y Axis X Axis

Holding……

  Farm Shape Farm Shape is broken down into fragments.

  Fragments broken down into parcels.

Parcels are roughly equivalent to fields.

CMMS/AIM

 Requirement under 1760/2000 for a Central Database.

 We use that database: – To generate profiles for TB test .

– To ensure that all animals in herd are tested in compliance of 64/432.

– To trace animals in the event of disease outbreaks.
