IRIS Research Seminar Semester 2 “An Empirical Assessment of Spanish University Strategies for Sustainability” Professor Javier Benayas del Alamo 14 February 2011, 1.15 – 2.45pm Room TC206B, Park Campus, University of Gloucestershire Javier Benayas del Alamo was a Professor of Ecology and Deputy ViceChancellor of Sustainability at the Universidad Autónoma of Madrid (20022009). He currently serves as Executive Secretary for the Conference of Rectors of Spanish Universities (CRUE) and has responsibility for the Commission on Environmental Quality, Sustainable Development and Risk Prevention (CADEP). He is also a member of the Spanish Ministry of Education's National Commission on University Strategies for Sustainability 2015. Javier is the coordinator of the Environmental Education Doctoral Program which has trained more than 250 post-graduate students since 2000 in nine Spanish universities. He has 25 years of research experience in the fields of environmental education evaluation, public engagement in protected areas, sustainable development planning for urban areas and human-landscape relationship. Javier maintains an active research profile as Director of an empirical research project which assesses the sustainability strategies of Universities in Spain.
