Objective
The objective is to create
your own comic book. It can
be from any genre that you
choose, as long as it is
school appropriate. When all
of the projects have been
completed we will combine all
three classes work, have
them printed and sell the
copies.
Where to start
Step 1-Have an idea. Hopefully
there is one rolling around in
your melon.
Step 2- Write a script and a
storyboard. It doesn't have to be
fancy
step-3 take the pictures
step-4 edit all the pictures and
then filter them to look like
comics.
Step-5 format your pages, place
the pictures in an appealing
fashion.
Step 6- Add the talk bubbles
and dialog
How it's done
Take a picture such as this:
Filter it
A filter changes the properties
of a picture. There are some
filters already installed in
Photoshop and fireworks, but
the good ones cost money.
The one we will be using is
called snap art, it's made by
alienskin.
Step 1
Take the next 20 minutes and
write down some ideas for
your comic book.
We will discuss all the ideas
and help you choose one.
Step 2
Writing the script for a comic
is different from a film script.
You will need to capture the
scene by more then just
words.
Body language, expression
and movement are very
important.
This can be a scene:
bob looks up from his paper,
his coworker is asking him for
help.
Step 2 cont..
This is the picture for that
scene:
Step 2 cont..
Draw out a storyboard. Why
you ask?
You and the actors will know
where they are to stand
the mood of the shot and
what you want to capture
this will later help you keep
things organized and
remember what picture goes
to what scene.
Step 3
Take the pictures
if the contrast is bad, the
filtered picture will be even
worse.
Cluttered backgrounds will
make your main subject
hidden amongst everything
else.
You can take the pictures of
your actors in front of a white
wall, cut them out and place
them into any background.
Step 4
Edit the pictures
you may want to edit them to
add or take away things
adjust the lighting and then
filter them.
Step 5
You will need to create new
pages that are 8.5 inches by
11 inches. This is the size of
standard paper.
You then place your pictures
in the page according to your
storyboard.
the pictures don't have to be
one after another, some can
larger then others. If you
make all the squares the
same, it will look very static.
Step 5
I have provided 5 templates
to get you started, feel free to
create your own.
Step 6
Now add your talk bubbles
and dialog. The talk bubbles
don't have to stick inside the
window, they can bleed over
a little.
Don't hide important parts of
the picture with your talk
bubbles.
Use different bubbles for
different things. Thinking,
screaming, angry, sad etc.
How will it be
graded?
Each part of the project will
need to be approved before
you can continue to the next
step. I want to read each
script and see every
storyboard.
The project as a whole will be
graded using a rubric. This
will let you evaluate your own
progress and see what is
expected.
When is it due?
Each phase will have different
time frames. I will make you
aware of each piece and
when it is due.
Work hard to make this a
project you would like to
share with family and friends.
This is your chance to be the
next marvel!
Most of all learn and have
fun.
