16 partners from 10 countries
8 universities
4 science parks
3 technology transfer organisations
1 ICT association
share best practice examples for Scientific
Transfer of Technologies
improve the role of universities for regional
transfer of research
set up a network of showrooms to promote
scientific innovation within a region – share
within the network
set up a common organisation for
sustainable operation
BONITA Mission
• transfer of scientific knowledge is an important building block for
European Regions of Innovation
• science and regional development can’t be separated
• active commitment and participation of universities
• activate science for transfer – increase their own responsibility
• cooperate on regional level as well as in strategic European
networks
• Ivy-League Research Cluster in the Baltic-Sea Region (BSR)
• providing base for a continuous dialog between politics, industry,
SMEs and Universities in innovation
What is Transfer of Technology?
• Knowledge transfer - transmitting research findings, skills and
competence from those who generate them to those who transform
them into economic and societal outcomes (such as research
collaborations, consultancy work, licensing, the creation of spinoffs, mobility of researchers and the publication of scientific
articles. )
• Technology transfer is the process of developing practical
applications for scientific research (such as formal transfer of rights
to use and commercialise new discoveries and innovations resulting
from scientific research to another party. )

Forms of Technology/Knowledge Transfer
• transfer through direct research assignments
from industry
• transfer through cooperation projects, also with
third party funding
• transfer through cooperation projects in the
teaching field
• transfer by passing on know‐how like workshops
etc.
• transfer of highly qualified people (students,
graduated, PhD, manager, …)
A Model for Technology Transfer
• The BONITA project develops a model to asses and improve
technology transfer organizations.
• moving technology transfer towards predictable processes
• focussing on the human factor in transfer
• assessing factors like communication skills, information
management, relation management, training needs
• providing arguments for specific investment in transfer
organizations
• improving transparency and quality of processes inside
organizations
BONITA – Elements
• analysis and adaptation of existing transfer models
• establishing Showrooms as a public window to research as
implementation of the transfer model
• transregional network to link regional transfer structures
on European level
• training, education and staff exchange to establish the
transfer from science for regional development and to train
the implementation of the model
• communication concepts and implementation to promote
the value of science within a region and beyond
The BONITA Approach
operates on regional AND European Level
BONITA
ShowRooms
• small and specialized exhibitions (so called showrooms) run
by research institutions as windows to scientific innovation.
• While the basic idea of the physical showroom is to have an
attractive exhibition area for demonstrating cutting edgetechnologies in a tangible and accessible fashion and
transmitting technological knowledge between science and a
region, the main idea of the virtual showroom is to have
centralized access to several exhibits located in different
places resulting in distributed knowledge and bridging the
gap between the physical and virtual world of museums and
showrooms and between the expert and the visitor.
BONITA-ShowRoom at RTU
Showroom at RTU aims to:
• Promote innovative ICT solutions
• Create a link between product’s/service or idea’s author and industry,
especially SMEs
• Network with the other technology transfer centers
Showroom at RTU is a place for:
• demonstration of existing products and solutions;
• creation of new products’ and solutions’ ideas.
Showroom at RTU includes three inter-related components (parts):
• Physical exhibition located at RTU premises;
• multimedia demonstration (exhibit) outside the Showroom’s premises;
• Web-based infrastructure: web-portal.
BONITA-ShowRoom at RTU
• Showroom at RTU is equipped with several special stands for
demonstration of exhibits. Demostration options include
multimedia presentations, videos, software demos & trials, physical
prototypes & real systems.
One of the stands - “Video booth” – is aimed at creating of
ShowRoom visitors’ idea / product demonstration.
• BONITA-Showroom at RTU is managed by division of Applied
Systems Software, Institute of Applied Computer Systems
