How to solve the problem
• Create a database to store search
requests and results
• Use an email template so most of the hard
work is done for you
And so…
• CISS – Clinical Information Search System
is born.
CISS
• System allows search question to be
inputted, along with
– How & where the search is received
– what search is for e.g. urgent patient care,
audit etc
– When required
– Format to be sent in – print or email
Features
• Automatically populates template with
resources searched, disclaimer, question
as inputted, links to hierarchy used
• All you need do is attach results & other
documents and write the CL evidence
summary
• Emails user directly and copies to the
responder

bulletins and Guidance Summaries
• Retrieving full text articles from CL
literature searches when requested
• Assisting on conference and study day

• Receiving training in aspects of the CL role
Future Developments
• Continue to improve CISS system
• Use feedback to improve and further raise
profile of CL service within the Trust
• Develop a career structure for Clinical
Librarians within UHL
